Cotton to be cultivated in 1.875mn acres in Bahawalpur Division

BAHAWALPUR: Cotton will be cultivated in an area of 1.875 million acres in Bahawalpur division.

This was told in a meeting held to review cotton crop cultivation here today. The meeting was presided over by Director General Agriculture (Extension) Punajb Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali Buttar while officers of the Agriculture Department from Bahawalpur division attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that 80 percent economy of South Punjab depends on cotton. Director General Agriculture (Extension) Punajb directed the officers to achieve set targets according to Key Performance Indicators.

He asked the officers to provide guidance to the farmers in order to ensure the cultivation of cotton at the maximum area. He said that farmers must be informed about the use of certified seeds and cultivate the crop before May 31.

He said that farmers should also be provided guidance regarding the use of fertilizers and pesticides. The meeting also discussed the subsidy provided on the crop of sunflower.
