Days after the appointment of Maryam Nawaz as one of the vice-presidents of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to challenge the rival party's decision.

Speaking to local media, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi questioned Maryam's appointment on a party post when she was a convict. He further said that PTI was preparing to challenge the PML-N’s decision to appoint a party post to a convicted person.

The foreign minister added that his party is mulling over approaching the Election Commission of Pakistan or the country's courts, local media reported.

On May 3, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif had approved the appointments of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as senior vice president and former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal as the central general secretary. The party president had also appointed Maryam and his son Hamza Shehbaz as vice presidents of PML-N.

Former finance minister Ishaq Dar, who is facing corruption cases and is staying in London, was appointed as the party’s president for international affairs.
