National Assembly completing four years on Friday

The enactment of 18th, 19th and 20th amendments are being termed as biggest achievements of the National Assembly. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani ensured his presence in 98 percent sittings of the Assembly.

During the last four years the NA has passed 83 bills including 8 private member bills. The Parliament has successfully repealed various laws introduced by despotic regimes, thus protected the rights of the workers.

During the last four years, six joint sessions of the Parliament were held. President addressed four joint sessions. And he is likely to address the fifth joint session on March 17.

According to record, the NA had worked for 533 days and 1204 hours, ten minutes in four years. The answers of 10197 questions were given. The members had sought over 2819 Calling Attention Notices, 1511 adjournment motions and opposition staged 75 walk outs of limited duration.

The National Assembly has also passed over 50 resolutions, pinpointing various problems confronting the common-men. Drone attacks were discussed 19 times during the last four years. The MNAs also tabled 163 Private Members Bills but only 8 were passed by the National Assembly. Over 65 legislators participated in exclusive six day debate held for ending the menace of load-shedding of electricity and gas.
