Circulation of fake currency in Larkana villages

06 Mar, 2012

Sources at various bank branches in the district told PPI that at least six forged notes of 1000 denomination and one of 500 were detected in one of the bank branches in Naundero previous day.

Sources said that each bank branch receives and detects more than 10 notes daily of different denominations including 100 and 50 most of which are defaced and returned to the customers or account holders duly stamped as “forged” so that it cannot be used again but even then the circulation is increasing day by day.

Worst affected are the illiterate people, businessmen and shopkeepers who cannot differentiate between fake and genuine currency notes hence often fall prey to such illegalities.

It is also feared that if urgent foolproof measures are not taken by the government fake currency note of Rs.5000 will also come in the market which will hit hard economy. Citizens have urged the concerned higher authorities including State Bank of Pakistan to bring an immediate end to this menace otherwise the already poverty-stricken people will continue to suffer for no fault of them.
