The Indian Premier League (IPL) has drawn itself into a controversy after Indian off spinner Ravi Ashwin controversially dismissed Jos Buttler in the last night's match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab.

The whole incident occurred when Ashwin who was bowing noticed that the England wicket-keeper-batsman was advancing out of his crease before he had released the ball, the spinner stopped from completing his bowling action and instead removed the bails before lodging an appeal.

The appeal was sent to the third umpire which led to the departure of Jos Buttler.

Ashwin defended his decision in the post-match press conference, saying, "Look, it was very instinctive. It was not planned or anything like that. It's there within the rules of the game. I don't understand where the spirit of the game comes. Naturally if it's there in the rules it's there.

"I don't understand the point of sporting or sportive in that point because it's rules."

However, many cricketers were furious with Ashwin’s actions, and criticized the off spinner.
