ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court (AC) Thursday allowed Punjab Police to meet former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for taking his statement in Model Town incident 2014 in which 14 activists of Pakistan Minhaj ul Quran (PMQ) were killed.

AC Judge Arshad Malik conducted hearing on a plea filed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Muhammad Iqbal seeking court permission to visit Nawaz Sharif in Kot Lakhpat Jail regarding the matter.

During hearing, he informed the court that he wanted to meet former prime minister in jail regarding the investigation of Model Town incident.

However, NAB prosecutor Mirza Usman opposed the request and pleaded that accountability court was not the proper forum to seek such permission.

The petitioner, he said, should move to IHC in this regard as it was a relevant forum for such cases.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court, however, allowed the police to meet Nawaz Sharif in Lahore jail.
