This was stated by Citrus Research Institute Sargodha (CRIS) Director Muhammad Nawaz Maiken while talking to APP here Monday.

He said that shelf life of kinnow had been reduced due to rains, and the situation was having a negative impact on kinnow exports.

He said that current rains would be beneficial for kinnow orchards during the next season, while low yield was expected during the current season due to weather conditions and threats of diseases.

The director said that CRIS was making efforts to solve problems of growers.

Last year, Rs40 billion kinnow was exported, he said and added that difficulties were also being faced in meeting the targets.

The growers said the government should take up the matter of kinnow revival on priority basis as farmers were reluctant to maintain their orchards due to crisis.
