Pakistan middle order batsman Umar Akmal showed glimpses of his past last night against Peshawar Zalmi at the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) being played in Dubai .

The youngster, Akmal, hit a blistering unbeaten knock of 75 off 50 balls, guiding his side the Quetta Gladiators to their first win of the tournament against the arch rivals Peshawar Zalmi.

Akmal intends to showcase his talent throughout the tournament and eyes to use the PSL platform as a ticket to enter the national team. “I want to continue performing well in the rest of the games for Quetta so I can make a comeback into the national team as soon as possible,” Umar said while talking to local media.

Last night, Quetta Gladiators chased down 156 runs target at the loss of four wickets against Peshawar Zalmi. Umar Akmal was the top scorer alongside skipper Sarfraz on the second spot with 37 runs.

Furthermore, Akmal credited his elder brother Kamran Akmal and Quetta Gladiators coaching staff for their support to the batsman, struggling to cement his place in the national squad for a number of years.

Quetta Gladiators would now face defending champions Islamabad United on Sunday at Dubai.
