Pakistan top order batsman Babar Azam has emerged as one of modern batting powerhouses after a one side tour of South Africa. The youngster not only impressed in the limited overs, but also managed to brush off his Test concerns as well.

The performance has landed Babar praise from all corners, including former captain Rashid Latif, who was of the view that after the South African tour it seems Babar could reach to the levels of Pakistan batting greats Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf.

“Azam has been performing for the past year, but for the first time I felt that Babar can become a world class player, and can rise to the caliber of Inzamam, Yousuf and Mohammad Younis,” said Latif at Caught Behind.

Azam was by far Pakistan’s most consistent batsman on the tour scoring 221 runs, 195 runs and 151 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively. The former captain praised Babar’s shot selection and was especially impressed by the youngster ability to drive the ball.

Talking about off spinner Imad Wasim, who made his return into the Pakistan side during the limited overs series against South Africa, Latif said that Imad has been impressive with the ball and has also improved as a batsman. “I believe that Imad can also give good performance with both ball and ball in One Dayers and the World Cup,” said Latif.
