Federal Cabinet has appointed Shahbaz Jameel President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zarai Tarqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) for three years. Official sources told Business Recorder, Finance Division informed the Cabinet that President/CEO Zarai Tarqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) position was advertised in the media. In response to the advertisement 74 applications were received which were scrutinized by a committee headed by Finance Secretary. After assessment of the credentials of all the candidates on the basis of their experience, the committee short-listed candidates for consideration of the Selection Committee.
The committee comprising, Asad Umar, the then Finance Minister, Dr Ishrat Hussain, Advisor to Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms and Austerity, Arif Ahmed Khan, the then Secretary Finance and Dr Ijaz Munir, Secretary Establishment conducted interviews of 6 candidates, both in person and through video link.
The committee assessed the candidates on the basis of their professional knowledge and expertise, leadership qualities and communication skills required for the position of President/CEO ZTBL. The committee unanimously short-listed three names: Adnan Ghani, Shahbaz Jameel and Sheikh Aman Ullah. The Cabinet in its meeting held on February 14, 2019 considered the summary and approved the appointment of Adnan Ghani as President/CEO ZTBL for a period of three years under section 11(3)(a) of Banks (Nationalization) Act, 1974 subject to fit and proper test criteria of SBP. Notification for appointment of Adnan Ghani was issued on February 20, 2019.
According to Finance Division, Adnan Ghani furnished his documents for fit and proper test clearance after lapse of one month. Subsequently, he was cleared in principle by SBP. However, he did not assume charge of the position and on May 1, 2019 informed that he will not be able to take up the assignment due to his family circumstances.
In view of the foregoing, Finance Division proposed that the Cabinet may consider the name of Shahbaz Jameel for appointment as President, ZTBL who was second in order of merit as per recommendations of selection committee. The Cabinet in its meeting held on July 16, 2019 considered the proposal submitted by the Finance Division and approved appointment of Shahbaz Jameel as President/ CEO ZTBL.
