Pakistan’s ex-captain believes Babar Azam’s ‘positive intent’ an example for all

Former Pakistan captain and opening batsman Aamir Sohail has applauded top order batsman Babar Azam’s ‘positive intent’ in the recently concluded Test series against South Africa, calling him an example ‘to be followed’ by other players.

“Make no mistake that Babar Azam for all his talent has some technical deficiencies. However, what he showed all of us was his positive intent and that was great to see regardless of the fact that he came into bat at times when the ball was old and wasn’t doing that much,” said Sohail, quoted PakPassion.net.

Azam scored more than 200 runs in the three match Test series, including two fifties. The batsman who came at the sixth slot against some of the cricketing world’s most potent bowling line on difficult proved his credentials with the bat.

“In the back of his mind, Babar knew that the bowler would eventually bowl that unplayable delivery to him at any time given the sort of pitches the matches were being played on. But his philosophy seemed to be that he would get to the bowler before he got to him and take the game to the opposition,” said Sohail.

The former captain added that playing positively can have a ‘huge’ impact on the performance,  that was displayed well by the youngster. “Babar Azam's positive intent at the crease was an example for all other Pakistan batsmen to follow,” he added.
