After suspension by BCCI, Pandya loses endorsement over sexist comments

Things seem to be getting worse for Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, as after getting suspended from the ongoing tour of Australia over his sexist comments on a TV show, the all-rounder has now also lost a brand endorsement as well.

Pandya was dropped by men’s shaving razor Gillette Mach3 Start as its celebrity ambassador after his misogynistic comments on an Indian talk show Koffee with Karan. “Hardik Pandya’s recent comments do not reflect the values of Gillette. We have suspended our association with Hardik until we decide on further course of action,” a company spokesperson said, quoted The Times of India.

Pandya, alongside teammate KL Rahul, appeared on the show and soon after it aired last week, they came under fire over their sexist comments on. Their interview stirred a backlash from all corners, while led to the duo getting suspended by the Indian cricket board on Friday and were sent back to India.

“The CoA [Committee of Administrators] in accordance with the BCCI has decided to suspend Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul from playing any form of cricket after their comments on a TV show,” read a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) statement .

“The duo will now return to India and an inquiry and proceedings will be made against them for misconduct and indiscipline that have been initiated under Rule 41 of the BCCI constitution,” the statement added.

Earlier, captain Virat Kohli distanced his team from their remarks on the interview as he said the Indian team does not stand by Pandya and Rahul for making 'inappropriate' comments on women. “From the Indian cricket team point of view, any inappropriate comments that are made in that scenario are something that we definitely don’t support…and that has been communicated [to the two players],” he said at the pre-match press conference before the ODI series opener against Australia.
