Judicial Commission of Pakistan on Thursday recommended Justice Athar Minallah's name for the office of chief justice of Islamabad High Court. Justice Athar is the senior most judge in the IHC after the removal of Shaukat Aziz Siddqui. Chief Justice Anwar Khan Kasi would retire on November 27 after attaining the age of superannuation.
The JCP meeting in this regard was held in the Supreme Court building on Thursday, which was presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar and participated by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, senior puisne judge, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sh Azmat Saeed, Justice Mushir Alam, former judge Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed, Federal Minister of Law and Justice Dr Muhammad Farogh Naseem, Attorney General for Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan, representative Pakistan Bar Council Muhammad Yousuf Laghari and the Chief Justice of IHC. The recommendation of the JCP would be forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment for approval.
