Talking to media persons after inaugurating a sports and cultural festival of Superior University on Raiwind Road, Dr Firdous said Pakistan had condemned the unjustified move through Foreign Office. "We were expecting such stunts in the wake of trilateral summit of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, as all the three neighbouring Muslim countries have resolved to revive and promote their cultural, social and economic and trade relations," she added. To a question, she said assassins of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had dreamt that Pakistan would face a bleak future after her martyrdom, but the entire PPP leadership, especially President Asif Ali Zardari, did not bow down before the negative elements and succeeded in establishing the government's writ in Swat and Balochistan. She said the PPP-led coalition government had also introduced the Aghaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan Package to remove reservations and a sense of deprivation of the Baloch people, besides giving them provincial and administrative autonomy. "The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government while taking all political parties on board, tackled security challenges facing the country effectively. National interest by all means is supreme to us over our political ones," she added. To another question, the federal minister ruled out reports about restoration of NATO supplies. "The perception about restoration of NATO supplies (to Afghanistan through Pakistan) is totally wrong and has no even an iota of reality." However, she explained that according to a recent meeting between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and President Asif Ali Zardari, only shipments of textbooks for Afghan students would be transported to Afghanistan to save theie academic future. "All kinds of military-specific NATO supplies through Pakistan are still suspended and the Pakistan government will move on the issue on the recommendations of the parliamentary committee," she maintained. The Information Minister said, "We have to open up new terms of engagement with all countries, including the United States, which are united against the war on terror, and in this connection we will advance further in the light of parliamentary committee recommendations. It is utmost necessary to maintain relations with mutual respect." About a letter to the Swiss government, she said President Asif Ali Zardari had immunity under the Constitution and international laws. Answering a query, Dr Firdous said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto's martyrdom was an international conspiracy as she was the symbol of federation and unity. On the request of the PPP government, she said, the United Nations probed the matter to identify the mastermind of her assassination. The minister said that despite economic constraints, the government had taken a number of effective measures to overcome electricity shortage and projects were gradually bearing fruit. Dr Firdous said the next federal budget would be people-friendly and directly benefit the lower classes. "The government is also reforming the tax mechanism to improve revenue collection," she added.
