"It is not exactly clear what impact the troubles in Santos will have but they could lead to shipment delays and sellers took protection. Buyers were less concerned as the port handles only a smaller portion of soybean and products traffic and were not buying at the current levels hoping that good rains in Brazil and Argentina would aid soybean crops and weigh on prices," one broker said.
South American soymeal was offered between $1 and $5 a tonne up from Wednesday despite slightly lower CBOT soymeal futures. Bids were scarce and no deals were reported.
Most other products were quoted flat to a little up from Wednesday following the trend in soymeal and because of steadier rapeseed futures. One deal was reported in EU rapemeal at 186 euros per tonne fob lower Rhine for March delivery, unchanged from Wednesday, but the deal could not be confirmed.
