The euro which had climbed on news that Greece had clinched a deal for a new aid package, gave up those gains after Draghi spoke. It was last at $1.3255, unchanged on the day. Earlier, it hit a two-month high above $1.33. The ECB earlier left interst rates steady at 1 percent.

The dollar rose to 77.34 yen, a session peak, helped by an unexpected fall in US jobless claims last week.
