City District Government has decided shifting of fish market from Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) and for this purpose CDG is constructing a wholesale fish market near General Bus Stands (GBS). The decision was taken in a meeting held on the directives of the provincial government with District Nazim, Mohammad Asim Khan in the chair. Besides, Director Coordination, Sahibzada Mohammad Tariq, Director Livestock Dr Masoom, District Councillor Mohammad Saeed, Director Property Riaz Awan and ATOR Ayaz Durrani, president of the Ghanta Ghar Fish Market, Syamul Haq along with a delegation attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed matter of the Ghanta Ghar Fish Market and difficulties faced by the people due to it in detailed and decided that shift it the market in the larger public interest outside the city. The meeting after reviewing different proposals unanimously decided the construction of a wholesale market on an eight marla district government plot situated on main G.T.
Road near General Bus Stands where the displaced fish sellers will be allotted shops. List for the purpose will be provided to the district government within a period of 48 hours. For this purpose, a committee headed by Director Coordination was formed to inspect the site along with the displaced shopkeepers and on their final report, the new wholesale market will be constructed.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Nazim, Mohammad Asim Khan said that the decision of the shifting of fish market was taken in view of the problems and difficulties of the people and all matters in this regard will be resolved through mutual consultations. He clarified that the district government will not render anyone unemployed and all displaced shopkeepers will be allotted shops in the new market.
