Taiwan stocks at 5-mth closing high; banks, HTC up

The main TAIEX index rose 66.25 points to 7,741.24, after opening up 0.74 percent.

Electronics shares climbed 0.24 percent, with HTC jumping 2.83 percent as it caught up to gains in the benchmark TAIEX ahead of investor conference on Monday.

Tourism counters gained 0.96 percent, after media reports that more individual tourists travelling from China will be allowed starting in March.

The Taiwan dollar was up by T$0.072 to trade at T$29.473.

Foreign investors were net buyers on Friday, bringing their total buying to T$7.32 billion this month.
