Talking to a delegation of American Journalists called on her on media exchange programme, she said the United States media enjoys unprecedented outreach and influence across the world and it should portray positive image of the country.
She emphasized the need on persistent media exchange programmes between the two countries, adding that such exchanges help providing opportunity to learn from each others best practices and expertise.
She said that Pakistan is a democratic, progressive country and there is no bar on freedom of expression and media is free and independent in the country.
Pakistan highly values it relations with the United States, however, the relationship would be redefined on new terms of engagement after getting endorsement of the Parliament, she said.
Terrorism is a global phenomenon and a strategy must be devised to combat the menace. Extremist mindset in Pakistan is in minority and through a persistent strategy, the present government has been successful in curtailing the mindset to a greater extent, she said.
Pakistan has suffered immensely at war against terror. Pakistan has sacrificed the lives of 30,000 civilians and 5,000 armed forces and it must be recognized by the international community.
Government is committed to women empowerment and so far enacted seven laws in this regard to benefit the womenfolk, she said.
The visiting delegation appreciated the role of the government of Pakistan People's Party in granting media freedom, such programmes help bringing both the countries together.
