PR, FWO agree to mutually cooperate for upgrading railway tracks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways (PR) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) Wednesday agreed to mutually cooperate for upgrading the railway tracks.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and FWO Director General Inam Haider Malik here, a press release said.

The FWO agreed to work on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis in different areas, including the construction of Gwadar-Quetta section in a standard gauge and also conversion of Quetta-Taftan section to a standard gauge.

The minister asked the FWO to make a new alignment of track in the standard gauge from Karachi to Peshawar, besides straightening the curves of Kalowal-Pindora section.

He also asked to ensure security of pilgrims on the Quetta-Taftan section.

The minister also showed interest in working with the FWO on BOT basis for constructing an expressway on Nullah Lai.

Pakistan Railways would come upto the expectations of the nation, he said.

He said Mianwali Rail Car would be inaugurated on Friday.

The meeting was also attended by Chairman of the Ministry of Railways Javed Anwar, Secretary Railways Board Farukh Taimur Ghilzai and Director General Technical Munawar Shah.
