LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Friday introduced 'Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2012.

The chair sent the bill to standing committee for further deliberations. A number of adjournment motions, presented in the House by MPA Ch. Zaheer-u-Din, Amir Sultan Cheema and Simil Kamran, were referred for the next week.

Higher Education Minister Punjab Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman on Friday told Punjab Assembly that some 4,000 vacancies of lecturers were laying vacant in the province while 2,500 vacancies were being filled through the Punjab Public Service Commission.

The minister said working of government run libraries in Punjab was being enhanced and advance facilities were being provided to them. He said working on foolproof examination system was under way in all educational boards of the province.

To a question, the minister said the provincial education ministry had taken over Punjab Public Library and now the chief secretary Punjab being head of the board of governors was running its affairs.
