First liver transplant centre to be functional in June

ISLAMABAD: The first ever Liver Transplant Centre would be functional at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in June for which funds of Rs.200 million have already been released.

Executive Director of PIMS Professor Mahmood Jamal told APP

on Wednesday that tender has already been issued for purchasing of the equipment for liver transplant installation.

He said that the patients had to go abroad for liver transplantation as this facility was not available in the country. Over Rs 7-10 millions were spent on liver transplant. Now this facility would be available in the country at a cost of Rs 3-4 million, he added.

He further said,"to meet all the international standards, a separate operation theater will be set up. A team of Chinese surgeons will train our doctors".
