Zardari calls on Japanese Emperor

The Emperor specially came out of his palace and warmly received the President.

This was President Zardari's second meeting with Emperor Akihito. President Zardari met him in April 2009, when he visited Japan to lead Pakistan's delegation at the Friends of Democratic Pakistan meeting.

The Emperor recalled his visit to Pakistan in early 60s as Crown Prince and said that he fondly remembers that visit.

The President felicitated the Emperor's son and Crown Prince Naruhito on his birthday and invited him to visit Pakistan.

Emperor Akihito said that Japan gives great importance to its ties with Pakistan.

He also appreciated and recognised Pakistan's role in the war on terror and noted the numerous sacrifices of its security forces and people.

President Zardari lauded the role of Japan in Pakistan's development and its investment in various sectors. He said that his recent visit would further boost Pakistan- Japan ties.

Japan has been supportive of Pakistan and has been assisting it in social, health and education sectors. Japan has also played a key role in holding the first meeting of Friends of Pakistan moot at Tokyo. It is also appreciative of Pakistan's responsible stance on uses of peaceful nuclear energy and for abiding by international norms in this regard.
