Working at Elon Musk’s Tesla might be a dream for many, however, the place has recently been considered as one of the most dangerous places to work in, alongside Amazon.

The advocacy group ‘National Council for Occupational Safety and Health’ released a ‘The Dirty Dozen 2018’ list that contains Tesla as one of the most dangerous places to work in the US, based on its factory and warehouse conditions.

The company made it to the list because of its higher than average injury rate, unwillingness to address workers’ concerns and also unnecessary risks. Amazon was placed on the list because of similar reasons.

The Council noted that back in 2016, the great number of injuries at Tesla factories were 31% higher than the industry average and 83% higher serious injuries. They pointed to OSHA safety violations and cited the ‘Reveal’ investigation that the increase in factory injury rates were because of inaccurate reporting and not a safe environment, reported Engadget.

On the other hand, seven workers have died since 2013 in Amazon warehouse and also there is a ‘relentless demand’ to fulfill orders leading to harsh work conditions. Also, at times these injuries and deaths are preventable if effective health and safety measures are taken.

As per Gizmodo, Tesla responded to the report that countered Reveal’s report. It informed about numerous steps to improve safety including improvements in training and monitoring and hoped to be the ‘safest factory on Earth’. However, Amazon on its behalf said that they have taken steps to improve the safety results of their operations too by applying various methods along with launching ‘Safety Leadership Index’ to measure employees’ perception of safety.

The other 10 companies in the list include Lowe’s, Applebee’s, IHOP, two farms, a cosmetics factory and a waste management firm among others.
