05 Jan, 2012

Replying to the demands raised by Qalandar Lodhi of PMLQ and Javed Iqbal Abbassi of PMLN seeking support of the ruling parties for the unanimous passage of the resolution regarding establishment of Hazara province from the KP assembly, Mian Iftikhar said he will support the constitutional efforts made for creation of new province in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that it was strange that elected representative of Hazara were supporting a person who was not their well wisher and his past track record was a testimony to this affect.

He said the resolution submitted by MQM parliamentarians in the national assembly about establishment of new provinces was not more than a political stunt.

The provincial assembly has the right under the article 239(4) to pass a resolution with two-third majority about setting up of new province.

He said that the statement of MQM Qaid Altaf Hussain about new provinces was unconstitutional and unlawful, adding that after 18th amendment, the provincial assemblies has the rights to pass any resolution with two-third majority in this regard.

Info minister said that his party struggled for sixty-three years for renaming of the province but we never involved in any kind of blackmailing nor ethnic discrimination.

He said the Chief Minister has announced the establishment of Abasyn division and after completion of the population census, the new division would become functional.
