A meeting here at the PM House between the head of PML-Q Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Senior Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi in this respect agreed to "use their respective platforms to stand up against those contemplating to thwart the continuity of the democratic evolution in the country."
A statement from the PM House said leaders of the coalition partners exchanged views on the current political situation in the country and expressed their unwavering commitment to strengthen democracy in the country.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said his party would continue to cooperate with Pakistan People's Party to strengthen democratic process in the country and added that commitment in this regard would go much beyond.
The Prime Minister thanked PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Sheikh Waqas Akram and Ahmad Yar Hiraj for their continuous support to the government.
He said it vindicated the policy of reconciliation by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and said it was the best way to steer the country out of the challenges facing the country.
The Prime Minister said it was heartening that the political leadership, civil society and media had criticized the idea of re- introduction of military courts as the only option to control heinous crime.
Military courts were alien to democracy and an independent judiciary was working within the ambit of Constitution, the Prime Minister maintained.
Gilani said Pakistan was a civilized country and regretted the statement by an important leader and said it was unacceptable to the people of Pakistan.
