Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police launch online FIR registration system
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have registered 46 FIRs (first information reports), out of 287 complaints received through online FIR registration programme launched by the provincial government six weeks back. DIG operation KP Muhammad Yamin Khan told Business Recorder over the phone from Peshawar that following the directives of the incumbent government, KP police have launched online FIR registration system to facilitate the masses, who can lodge an FIR without any hindrance unlike the past.
"The police have worked out standing operating procedure (SOP) and now any complainant can register his/her FIR by just submitting the FIR by filling an online form available at KP police website www.kppolice.gov.pk", he said. The top police officer said that so far the concerned wing of online FIR registration has received 287 complaints, of which police have registered 46 FIRs. "Out of these 287 complaints, 139 have been registered in the daily diaries, seven are untraced, 10 were found to be already registered and 85 complaints are under process which would be entertained within 72 hours," he said.
Yamin said that according to the SOP, the complainant is bound to mention his/her name on the online form, father's name, CNIC number, contact number, email address, present address, home district, home police station, date of incident, time of incident, place of incident, police station jurisdiction and detail of incident.
The website generates an automatic ID of every complainant after submitting the FIR form, he said, adding that the FIR ID is being used for tracking the FIR. He said that the online FIR registration wing of KP police, forwards the FIR details of the complainant to the concerned Station House Officer (SHO), District Police Officer (DPO), Regional Police Officer (RPO) via email. Under the SOP the police officers are bound to take action on the complaint within 72 hours, he said.
Yamin said that police use Nadra verification system facility to minimise the possibility of fake FIRs as well as verify the identity of the complainant. The SHO concerned after receiving the FIR contacts the complainant and gets further information from the party concerned. He said that in case of any difficulty, the complainants can contact on telephone number 091-9213164 or mobile number 0300-5833306 as well as through fax number 091-9213165. The IT staff of online FIR registration wing will provide technical assistance to the complainant, he said. Yamin said that an FIR board has been set up headed by DIG operations, for supervising the online FIR service of KP police. The board is responsible for FIRs lodged and for each and every FIR received online to be downloaded and acted upon.
