Pak-US ties: PCNS discusses new terms of engagement

ISLAMABAD: The two-day meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) started on Tuesday to evaluate the suggestions of parliamentarians on new rules of engagement with the US in the aftermath of NATO's air strikes on the Pak military posts in Mohammad Agency.

The PCNS meeting was held in Parliament House with Senator Mian Raza Rabbani in the chair.

During a media talk, Rabbani said the draft containing new terms of relations with the US and Nato was discussed in the committee meeting in the light of suggestions received from the members of committee.

The committee secretariat distributed the initial draft of recommendations among the members in the last committee meeting in which parliamentarians were asked to come up with their own recommendations in the next meeting scheduled for Jan 3, 2012.

The PCNS prepared an initial draft for the review of the policy of cooperation with the US and its allies by including the suggestions of Defence Ministry. The Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry will also be consulted in the draft preparation. It would be later handed over to Prime Minister. The Prime Minister then will summon a joint session of Parliament for further debate over the draft.
