The Supreme Court on Thursday disqualified Khawaja Muhammad Islam for having a fake degree and directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to cancel his notification from PP-71, Faisalabad. This was declared by a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Sh Azmat Saeed.
During the course of proceeding, the CJ stated that the counsel for Islam failed to convince the bench in favour of his client. While declaring Islam's degree fake the apex court directed the authorities to establish a criminal suit against him. Meanwhile, in another election matter, the CJ disqualified Member Provincial Assembly from Punjab Mir Baz Shah Kaisrani. Kaisrani was elected as MPA from PP 240 Gera Ghazi Khan in the recent general elections. However, the bench de-notified his winning notification on having fake degree.
