Railways’ scrap scam: NAB arrests Chief Controller Stores, three contractors
LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested Chief Controller Stores, Railways, Khalid Mahi-ud-Din and three contractors; Shabir, Shakeel and Zahid Khan, in railway scrap scam.
Director General NAB Punjab Khurshid Anawar while addressing a press conference said Khalid was facing the charge of selling out railway scraps to his favourities on throwaway price that caused millions of rupees loss to the Railways.
He said the action has been taken under the directives of Supreme Court and added any official even keeping any higher post in railways would not escape for corruption. He said that inquiry into the scam was being conducted indiscriminately and if any official was found involved would be arrested. He, however, said NAB could not take action against its own officials involved because they enjoy immunity under the NAB laws.
