PRA’s directive to hotel owners

Published Updated

LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has directed hotel owners across the province to complete 100 percent installation of the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS) by the end of this month, warning that businesses issuing fake electronic receipts will face strict action and heavy penalties.

PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra gave the directive during a meeting with a delegation of the Hotels Association. The talks focused on rolling out EIMS in the hotel sector and on tax compliance.

Participants discussed ways to bring the entire hotel industry into the tax net and widen the tax base. They also reviewed the installation process, the technical requirements and the challenges hotels face in adopting the system.

The Hotels Association delegation pledged full cooperation with PRA initiatives to improve the tax system and promote digitalisation. The delegation was told that EIMS installation across the industry would be completed within the current month.

Sipra urged hotel owners to install the system fully and pay their taxes on time. He stressed that issuing proper computerised receipts to customers for services provided is a legal requirement.

He said that, with the business community’s support, the tax system could be made simpler, more transparent and more efficient. Expanding the tax net, he added, is meant to encourage business activity and build a culture of tax compliance.

The Chairman also warned that operators found engaging in fraud in issuing electronic receipts would be closely monitored and hit with heavy fines.

The meeting ended with both sides agreeing to strengthen coordination and hold regular consultations to resolve industry-related issues.
