KARACHI: Sindh Ombudsman Muhammad Sohail Rajput has called for expeditious disposal of pending public complaints, improved performance of regional offices and effective implementation of the Ombudsman’s decisions.

He termed enforcement of certain rulings a serious challenge. He was chairing a monthly departmental meeting to review the overall performance of the institution, including a comparative assessment of public complaints registered in October this year and the corresponding month last year.

Rajput briefed the meeting on his recent visits to Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar, highlighting administrative shortcomings and staff shortages in some regional offices.

He stressed the need to address these issues and improve the accuracy, maintenance and security of official records.

He directed advisers to visit at least one regional office every month to assess staffing requirements and performance, while calling for immediate steps to clear long-pending complaints.

Expressing concern over the lack of implementation of some decisions issued by the Provincial Ombudsman, Rajput said legislation was essential to ensure effective enforcement of the institution’s rulings.

He also directed officials to give priority to public complaints concerning education, drinking water and healthcare, describing these issues as matters of public interest.

He said that even if a complainant withdrew a complaint relating to education, healthcare or access to clean drinking water, the underlying issue should be addressed through suo motu action to safeguard the wider public interest.

Secretary Syed Junaid Ahmed, Director General Naseemuddin Mirani, the Registrar, advisers and other senior officers attended the meeting.
