Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to discuss recent regional developments, as diplomatic efforts continue to end the Middle East conflict.

During the conversation, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on the evolving regional situation, according to a statement shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on social media platform X.

Dar underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomacy to address outstanding issues and emphasised the need for all parties to remain constructively engaged.

He also reaffirmed that active and sustained diplomatic efforts were essential to achieving lasting peace, security and stability in the region, the FO said.

The conversation comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to end the eight-month conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran, which has disrupted regional security, affected global energy markets and heightened concerns over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran and the United States have continued indirect contacts through regional mediators, including Pakistan and Qatar.

The latest diplomatic engagement also follows the November 3 US midterm elections, in which Democrats made significant gains, dealing a setback to President Donald Trump’s Republican Party.

The Iran war and its economic consequences, particularly higher fuel and living costs, became a source of political pressure on the Trump administration during the election campaign.

Despite the electoral setback, Trump has maintained that he stands by his decision to launch military action against Iran, leaving the prospects for a negotiated settlement uncertain.
