KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed the transport department to finalise routes and operational arrangements for another batch of electric and double-decker buses expected to arrive in Karachi this month.

Chairing a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, he stressed that routes should cover major roads, commercial centres, educational institutions and residential areas, particularly those with greater public transport needs.

The meeting, attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, TransKarachi CEO Zubair Channa, Yellow Line Project Director Kamal Dayo and other officials, reviewed arrangements for the new buses, progress on the Red and Yellow Line BRT projects and Green Line operations.

Sharjeel directed officials to finalise arrangements for charging stations, depots, bus stops and other technical and administrative requirements to ensure smooth operations.

He said expanding the fleet must be accompanied by effective route planning and reliable services.

The meeting also decided to open the Red Line BRT’s U-turn on University Road to facilitate commuters. The minister called for extraordinary efforts to complete the Red Line project on time and directed that work on Depots 1 and 2 of the Yellow Line be expedited.

He also ordered early completion of the second section of the Taj Haider Bridge and directed relevant officials to monitor construction work daily.

He said providing modern, efficient and accessible public transport remained a priority of the Sindh government.
