PM informed: Jinnah Medical Complex to be operational by March next year
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Monday that a 403-bed hospital under construction in the capital was expected to become operational by March 23, 2027, with 59 percent of the work completed.
Chairing a review meeting on the Jinnah Medical Complex & Research Centre (JMCRC), the Prime Minister directed officials to ensure the project met its construction targets within the stipulated timeframe.
The facility would provide modern healthcare services to patients from Islamabad and across Pakistan, particularly those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan, he said.
The Prime Minister called for all appointments at the hospital to be made transparently and on merit, and directed officials to engage a private-sector organisation to run the facility in line with international healthcare standards.
He also stressed the need to ensure access to advanced diagnostic services for low- and middle-income groups, directing that PET scans and other modern diagnostic facilities be made a key part of the project.
Officials told the meeting that structural work on the main hospital building and parking plaza had been completed.
Work on installing and maintaining medical equipment, developing a digital hospital management system and making other administrative arrangements was under way.
The meeting was also informed that national competitive bidding for the second phase of the hospital in Islamabad’s H-11 sector had begun under a revised design, with construction expected to start soon. Procurement of advanced diagnostic equipment and scanners was also in progress.
Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema attended the meeting, along with senior officials.
