PTI counsel meets Imran, Bushra Bibi at Adiala jail
PTI lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar met Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in Adiala jail, discussing legal matters and health amid restricted access and their multiple convictions.
- Restricted access to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in jail.
- Imran Khan's health concerns and treatment disputes.
- Multiple convictions faced by the political couple.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar on Monday met party founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala jail, where both are serving prison sentences.
In a post on X, Safdar said this was his first meeting with Imran in seven months and his first with Bushra Bibi in 11 months. He said the 40-minute session was “insufficient to cover all cases [and] legal matters.”
He added that the couple briefed him on their health and living conditions and gave him new instructions on several cases.
Safdar’s last publicly reported meeting with the former prime minister was on April 8, a day after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed authorities to arrange it.
An earlier meeting on February 10 took place on the Supreme Court’s orders, after concerns were raised about Imran’s health.
The IHC has allowed Imran meetings twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with family members, lawyers and associates. However, despite repeated court directives, his access to family and party leaders has been largely restricted in recent months.
Imran has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, which came to light in late January. He has had procedures at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), but his family wants him moved to a hospital of their choice.
The opposition accuses the government of a lack of transparency about his treatment and of denying his personal doctors access to him. The government rejects these allegations.
Imran has been in jail since August 5, 2023, when he was sentenced to three years in the Toshakhana case. He and Bushra Bibi are also serving 14-year sentences in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.
In December 2025, they were convicted in a second Toshakhana case, with Imran sentenced to 10 years and Bushra Bibi to seven. Imran also faces trials in terrorism cases linked to the May 9, 2023 riots.
Imran’s sisters, Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan, have held frequent sit-ins outside Adiala jail with opposition leaders to demand his release.
They have been unable to hold further protests since they were detained in late September under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, as the PTI prepared for a march on Islamabad.
