LONDON: The European Commission on Friday cut its monthly estimates for usable production of maize in the European Union in 2026/27 to 47.0 million metric tons, from 48.3 million tons forecast in September.
For soft wheat, the EU’s main cereal crop, the Commission trimmed its estimate of 2026/27 output to 123.7 million tons, down from 124.2 million tons projected last month. Its projection of 2026/27 EU soft wheat exports was left unchanged at 29.0 million tons.
Ending stocks were cut to 10.6 million tons, down from 11.4 million tons forecast in September, also owing to a cut in its beginning stocks estimate.
In contrast, the Commission increased its estimate of 2026/27 barley output to 53.6 million tons from 52.9 million tons. In oilseeds, the Commission raised its estimate of the bloc’s sunflower seed output to 9.7 million tons from 9.4 million tons forecast last month. Estimated 2026/27 rapeseed production and imports were left unchanged at 19.4 million tons and 6.4 million tons respectively.
