ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday made it clear that the government would continue indiscriminate action against encroachments and illegal occupants of state land in the federal capital.

Naqvi, while talking to the media, said that no government or private institution, or any individual, would be permitted to illegally occupy government land. He said that a department attached to the Interior Ministry reclaimed the government land, adding that a camp office of the Federal Constabulary (FC) set up on the green belt had been demolished a few months ago.

He said that complete elimination of encroachments from the federal capital is our target. The government is committed to transforming the capital into a beautiful, green and encroachment-free city.

The minister supervised the demolition operation of the Khanna Police Station building located on the green belt along Islamabad Expressway. Khanna Police Station had temporarily been shifted to an alternative location, while a new legally designated site had been allocated for the construction of its permanent building, he said.

Meanwhile, the minister visited the under-construction Kashmir Chowk Underpass project and reviewed the progress of the project. He issued directives to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to complete the project within the stipulated time.

The minister was informed that 78 percent of the construction work had been completed within just 20 days. He said that more than 6,000 trees would be planted around the Kashmir Chowk Underpass to make the area greener and more attractive, the minister said, directing the CDA to install aesthetically appealing lighting around the project to enhance its overall appearance.

He said that completion of the underpass would provide significant relief to commuters travelling towards Murree and Muzaffarabad. It would also make traffic movement between Rawalpindi and Islamabad smoother and more convenient, he said.

Naqvi said that measures were also being taken to address traffic congestion on the Islamabad Expressway.
