Punjab PA session adjourned indefinitely over lack of quorum
LAHORE: The Punjab government once again faced embarrassment as it failed to ensure the required quorum in the provincial assembly, forcing the deputy speaker to adjourn the session indefinitely amid strong opposition protests and sloganeering.
The session, chaired by Deputy Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Channar, lasted only 35 minutes before being adjourned indefinitely due to a lack of quorum.
Several important bills were scheduled to be taken up during the session, but the proceedings could not move forward as the government failed to maintain the required attendance in the House.
During the proceedings, opposition members staged a strong protest and raised slogans against the government.
Opposition Leader Moeen Riaz Qureshi criticised the alleged arrest of the sisters of the PTI founder Imran Khan and expressed concern over the health of Noreen Niazi, alleging that she was not being provided with adequate medical facilities.
Meanwhile, opposition lawmakers, accompanied by the husband of PTI founder’s sister Uzma Khan, also staged a protest on the steps of the Punjab Assembly, highlighting their concerns over the treatment of the PTI founder’s family.
The session was subsequently adjourned indefinitely without taking up the scheduled legislative business.
