KARACHI: The Sindh government is accelerating major infrastructure and transport projects in Karachi, including the Port Qasim–M-9 Motorway link road, Red and Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects and the proposed Karachi Port–Qayyumabad elevated expressway, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said here in a statement.
He said that development initiatives would be executed across the province. Under an integrated plan, road infrastructure, public transport, drainage systems and civic facilities are being developed to transform Karachi into a modern city, he said.
He said the Port Qasim–M-9 link road and Red and Yellow Line BRT projects were progressing, while the proposed elevated expressway connecting Karachi Port with Qayyumabad would strengthen connectivity between the port, industrial zones and major arteries, facilitating commercial and industrial activities.
The minister said Karachi’s public transport network was also being expanded, with double-decker buses and additional electric buses expected to arrive in November. Planning for new routes was underway, alongside efforts to integrate the Red, Yellow, Green and Orange Line systems into a coordinated transport network to provide commuters with improved and seamless travel facilities.
Directives had been issued to expedite development work on roads, underpasses, bridges and other key infrastructure across Karachi. Similar attention was being given to road networks, bridges, public transport and civic infrastructure in other cities of Sindh.
Sharjeel Memon said the government’s priority was not merely to launch new schemes but to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects in accordance with prescribed standards so that their benefits could reach the public.
He said Karachi’s importance as a major centre of the national economy made its development essential to the country’s overall economic progress, adding that the provincial government would continue investing in infrastructure and modern public facilities to improve urban mobility and the quality of life.
