KARACHI: The German Consul General in Karachi, Thomas E. Schultze, has highlighted the potential for Pakistan and Germany to expand cooperation in healthcare, including diagnostic technologies, medical equipment, professional training, clinical research, digital healthcare and pharmaceutical innovation.
Speaking at a breast cancer awareness event organised by the German-Pakistani Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI), in collaboration with its member Himmel Pharma, as part of Pinktober 2026, he said the two countries could translate German expertise and Pakistan’s potential into better healthcare, stronger institutions and improved patient outcomes.
He said the strength of a community and friendship was measured not only by economic achievements but also by how it cared for people’s well-being.
Referring to Germany’s engagement with Pakistan’s healthcare and research institutions, Schultze said cooperation in cancer care extended beyond business partnerships. He cited the German Ambassador’s visit to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital on World Cancer Day as an example of the importance of international research cooperation and joint efforts to support patients and advance cancer care.
The event was attended by GPCCI President Usman Wali, while Professor Dr Naila A. Zahid, Head of the Oncology Department at Liaquat National Hospital, delivered a session on breast cancer awareness.
