KARACHI: The Sindh government is taking steps to make the mobile health unit system more effective and modernise its operations to ensure the provision of healthcare facilities at the doorstep of people, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Rehabilitation Giyan Chand Essarani says.
He said millions of patients had received medical services through mobile health units, which also provided laboratory testing and other diagnostic facilities.
He said that the Directorate of Mobile Diagnostic and Emergency Healthcare Services had provided medical facilities to 5,019,864 patients from June 2016 to September 2026, while 1,274,322 laboratory and other medical tests had been conducted during the period.
He said 20 mobile units were currently operating in 17 districts of Sindh, comprising 13 mobile diagnostic units and seven mobile health units.
Highlighting the services of the model mobile hospital established at the Civil Hospital in Umerkot, the adviser said it offered specialised healthcare facilities, including a mobile intensive care unit (ICU), gynaecology, maternity care, neonatal care and intensive care services.
The model facility has so far conducted 3,654 deliveries and provided medical services to 18,178 patients, he added.
The adviser said mobile health units were intended to reach communities where access to hospitals and diagnostic centres remained difficult. The units provided medical examinations, blood tests and other essential laboratory investigations, as well as relevant tests for cancer diagnosis, helping facilitate the timely detection of diseases and appropriate medical guidance for patients.
