LAHORE: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s (PSCA) Virtual Blood Bank continues to play a vital role in helping citizens access blood during medical emergencies, providing a reliable digital coordination mechanism that connects patients and their families with voluntary blood donors.

Since its establishment, the initiative has facilitated 84,811 citizens in accessing blood, reflecting its significant contribution to emergency medical assistance and life-saving support.

The Virtual Blood Bank currently has 153,971 registered volunteer donors representing different blood groups across Punjab. The registered donors include members of civil society, blood donation organizations, police personnel, and Safe Cities Authority volunteers, all contributing to a coordinated effort to help patients in need of timely blood transfusions.

According to the PSCA, the Virtual Blood Bank provides a streamlined digital mechanism to facilitate coordination between patients and potential donors around the clock. Citizens requiring blood during a medical emergency can access the service by calling Emergency Helpline 15 and pressing 4 to connect with the Virtual Blood Bank.

Upon receiving a request, the Virtual Blood Bank officer obtains the patient’s required blood group and hospital details. The team then searches its digital database and contacts registered volunteers with the matching blood group to determine their availability and willingness to donate.

Following mutual consent, a conference call is arranged between the willing donor and the patient’s family to facilitate direct coordination. The donor subsequently visits the relevant hospital and donates blood after undergoing the necessary medical screening, in accordance with hospital requirements.

The PSCA emphasized that the initiative is making it easier for citizens to seek blood-related assistance during critical medical situations by bringing patients and potential donors together through an organized digital platform. The service also encourages a culture of voluntary blood donation and collective responsibility towards saving precious human lives.

The PSCA urged citizens to register with the Virtual Blood Bank as volunteer blood donors and contribute to this humanitarian initiative. Every voluntary donation can offer renewed hope to patients and families facing medical emergencies. Citizens requiring blood-related assistance or wishing to offer their services as voluntary donors can call Emergency Helpline 15 and press 4 to access the Virtual Blood Bank service.

It was emphasized that through this initiative, PSCA continues to strengthen digital public services and facilitate timely assistance for citizens in need.
