LAHORE: A delegation from the Russian Federation’s Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters visited PDMA Punjab where they met with Director General of PDMA Punjab Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa.
Additional Director General Muhammad Ibrahim, Director of Operations Nisar Ahmed Sani, and other relevant officials were also present. DG PDMA Punjab Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa welcomed the Russian delegation.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding preparedness for natural disasters in Punjab, effective emergency response, and the promotion of mutual cooperation in the field of disaster management.
The DG PDMA Punjab briefed the Russian delegation on the province’s proactive disaster preparedness, rapid emergency response mechanisms, and the measures taken to provide relief to affected populations.
The meeting also addressed risks arising from climate change, the protection of vulnerable populations, and strategies to enhance the effectiveness of disaster risk management. Emphasis was placed on the importance of a joint strategy to bolster disaster response capabilities, strengthen institutional linkages, and ensure timely and effective action during natural disasters.
DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa stated that strong coordination among relevant institutions, the exchange of experiences, and the formulation of a joint strategy are essential requirements for effectively dealing with natural disasters. He noted that, following the directives of Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, proactive preparations and timely response mechanisms are being further strengthened to address potential disaster risks. He added that providing timely relief and necessary assistance to disaster-affected populations remains a top priority for PDMA Punjab. According to a PDMA spokesperson, the meeting explored possibilities for future collaboration in disaster management, enhancing emergency response capabilities, and undertaking joint initiatives to mitigate disaster risks. The Russian delegation expressed its commitment to continuing cooperation with the Government of Punjab in the field of disaster management.
