Pakistan’s military was responding with heavy weapons to unprovoked firing by the Afghan Taliban in the Kurram sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, state-run PTV News reported citing sources on Saturday.
The sources said the Pakistan Army’s retaliatory action destroyed several Afghan Taliban posts, forcing personnel to abandon their positions and flee.
They said the Afghan Taliban regime had opened fire in support of terrorists.
The security sources said the Pakistan Army remained alert and determined to defend the country’s borders and safeguard national security.
Meanwhile, Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza on Saturday warned that any miscalculation in the region would be met with a response beyond the adversary’s imagination, stressing that there was no room for war in a nuclearised environment.
Addressing the passing-out parade at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA), Kakul, he said Pakistan would not tolerate cross-border aggression or any violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Let no adversary mistake our commitment to peace as weakness nor misinterpret our restraint as a lack of resolve,” he said, adding that the armed forces were prepared to defend every inch of the country.
