LAHORE: Punjab is set to attract investment in camel milk processing, with the provincial government agreeing to provide four acres of land in Faisalabad’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the establishment of a camel milk powder manufacturing plant by ELC Biotechnology (Pvt) Limited, aimed at exporting the product to Saudi Arabia, the Middle East and other international markets.

The development was discussed at a meeting chaired by Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain at PESSC House on Davis Road on Thursday. The company’s chairman, Ehtisham-ul-Haq, participated in the meeting through video link from Italy.

Ehtisham-ul-Haq informed the meeting that the company required four acres in the Faisalabad SEZ to establish the camel milk processing facility. He said an order for the plant’s machinery had already been placed and the equipment was expected to arrive within the next six months.

He said the proposed facility would process camel milk into milk powder for export to Saudi Arabia, the Middle East and other countries, creating opportunities to develop an export-oriented segment of the dairy processing industry.

Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said the provincial government would provide the land required by ELC Biotechnology for setting up the processing plant, adding that investors were being facilitated on a priority basis to accelerate industrialization in Punjab. He said the provincial government, in line with the vision of the chief minister, was expediting industrial development to attract investment, expand manufacturing capacity and generate employment opportunities for local people.

The minister said the establishment of more industrial units would create jobs and strengthen economic activity, while export-oriented industries would help increase exports and reinforce the provincial and national economies.

He added that Punjab’s special economic zones offered industrial infrastructure meeting international standards, alongside facilities including branches of various banks, to facilitate investors and support industrial operations.

The meeting was attended by Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) Chief Operating Officer Qurat-ul-Ain, Director General Punjab Board of Investment and Trade Dr Sohail Ahmed, Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) Chief Operating Officer Ali Muazzam and other relevant officials.
