PESHAWAR: A petition challenging the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Advocate Salman filed the petition, naming the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister and the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as respondents.
The petitioner contended that the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in the province was “unconstitutional, unlawful and mala fide, and violated fundamental rights and the democratic mandate”.
The petition seeks a declaration that the measures are illegal and be set aside.
It also requests the PHC to suspend the notification imposing governor’s rule until the final decision on the petition.
