World standards day: Message from Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan

On World Standards Day, Pakistan stands with the international community in recognizing the transformative power of standards in building a safer, more sustainable, and prosperous world. This year’s theme “Shared Vision for a Better World: Spotlight on SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy” aptly underscores the critical role of standards as a practical foundation for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, from fostering a sustainable economy to combating climate change.

In today’s competitive global economy, the quality of our products and services is fundamental to our national competitiveness. Adherence to internationally recognized standards is imperative for gaining access to global markets, enhancing our exports, and strengthening Pakistan’s economy. Standards instill confidence in the ‘Made in Pakistan’ brand among global consumers and provide our industries with a robust framework for quality, efficiency, and innovation.

The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) plays a pivotal role in this mission. As our national standards body, PSQCA develops and promotes national standards and harmonizes them with relevant international standards and best practices, helping ensure that our industries compete effectively in domestic and international markets.

My Government is fully committed to supporting the Ministry of Science and Technology and PSQCA in this vital endeavor. We shall continue to strengthen our national quality infrastructure and foster a culture of quality across all sectors, driving innovation, protecting consumers, and advancing Pakistan’s sustainable economic growth.

I commend PSQCA, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and all stakeholders for their dedicated efforts in upholding quality and excellence across every sector of our economy.

On this World Standards Day, I call upon our business community, industrialists, and manufacturers to embrace standardization as a core principle of enterprise.
