ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister Faisal Vawda claimed on Tuesday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had disintegrated, saying that a system reboot had taken place in the country that would lead to the eradication of terrorism.
Addressing a press conference, Senator Vawda said the next 180 days would be crucial, stressing that there was no room for failure in the fight against terrorism. Appreciating the military leadership, he said the Field Marshal was succeeding on all fronts, adding that these efforts should be recognised in addressing the country’s security and economic challenges.
While criticising former party over alleged links with militants, Vawda highlighted the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), claiming the province had endured years of destruction and deteriorating state of law and order.
He said members of the armed forces, police and the public continued to sacrifice their lives in the fight against terrorism, adding that the country could not afford to let their efforts go unrecognised.
Vawda argued that the military was being expected to handle multiple challenges simultaneously, including counterterrorism, economic stability, preventing a default and attracting investment. He said the country’s leadership must deliver results, warning that others would step in if the current administration failed to do so.
Vawda accused PTI of being complicit in terrorism and alleged that the party had failed to remove individuals he described as “Kharijis”, a term used in Pakistan’s official discourse for militants associated with certain extremist groups. He also criticised PTI over its political messaging and internal divisions, claiming the party’s slogans had lost credibility among the public.
The Senator said people in KP had not taken to the streets because, in his assessment, they had been left devastated by the province’s circumstances. He further claimed that recent arrests were linked to collusion and alleged that eight PTI members had been in contact with him over the preceding 48 hours, including individuals who had served in the party’s cabinet.
These allegations were presented by Vawda during the press conference and were not independently established in the supplied account. The senator said PTI members should consider forming a separate political party to serve Pakistan, arguing that the existing party had lost its political standing.
He also referred to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, saying Fazlur Rehman had not deceived Afridi. Vawda maintained that the political and administrative system was heading towards a reboot, adding that those responsible for what he termed “economic terrorism” would not be spared.
He stressed that national security and Pakistan’s interests must take precedence over political loyalties, reiterating that the country would not tolerate failure in its campaign against terrorism.
