LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has intensified its twin-pronged offensive against urban violations, demolishing infrastructure across six illegal housing schemes and sealing 43 non-compliant commercial properties, while town planning teams are pairing physical demolitions with strict digital monitoring and aggressive revenue-recovery targets to curb unauthorised construction across the metropolis.
According to the LDA, operations targeting illegal housing schemes and commercial activities were underway; under the supervision of the Chief Metropolitan Planner, LDA teams carried out operations against illegal housing schemes on Sundar-Raiwind Road and Multan Road.
During these operations, structures associated with six illegal schemes were demolished, including those belonging to Mashallah Villas (an illegal subdivision near Mal Pind), Daman City, Maraka Marketing, Maraka Homes, Maraka City, and New Lahore City. The demolition included boundary walls, offices, roads, and other related structures.
Additionally, the LDA Town Planning Wing conducted an operation against illegal commercial buildings within the LDA-controlled area. A total of 43 commercial properties were sealed along GT Road, as well as in Allama Iqbal Town and Gulberg. Specifically, 10 properties were sealed in Allama Iqbal Town, 15 in Gulberg, and 18 on GT Road. The sealed properties included private schools, grocery stores, beauty salons, cafes, restaurants, food outlets, clinics, pharmacies, shops, showrooms, and auto workshops.
This operation was carried out under the supervision of Chief Town Planner-I, Asad-uz-Zaman. The LDA said that it continues to take decisive action against illegal housing schemes, illegal commercial buildings, and properties with outstanding commercial fee dues.
Meanwhile, a meeting on revenue generation was held under the chairmanship of LDA DG Tahir Farooq, during which revenue targets for town planning and auctions were reviewed. The Chief Town Planners and Director of Finance provided updates on the progress made towards achieving these revenue targets.
The meeting was briefed that the LDA Town Planning Wing was actively enforcing actions against properties in accordance with new standard operating procedures (SOPs). The sealing and de-sealing of properties were being monitored through digital tracking systems.
Moreover, a briefing was presented on the operations of the Town Planning and Urban Design Centre, and the Director of Finance delivered a detailed report on revenue recovery across all sections.
On this occasion, the LDA DG directed the Director of Auction to expedite activities following the auction calendar and emphasised that the Tech Park on Ferozepur Road should be marketed promptly. He stressed the intensification of the recovery drive and instructed the Director of Finance to regularly share updates on revenue progress.
